This pictures shows a real life cast with a 9’ 8 wt rod loaded with 300 total grains of a head, leader, and fly. The most dramatic thing in this picture is the flexion in the rod. The 9 foot stick has been flexed into an approximately 66 inch tall, stable-shaped device through which, by (necessarily) constant application of force that (necessarily) constant 300 grains of weight is going to get up to 85% of it’s acceleration.
