The third is of my then 9 year old #2 son Matt fishing for and landing one of these fish. This takes some explaining. Matt is the greatest natural caster I ever ran into. I wish I could take credit for teaching him, but the truth is at age 5, after 30 seconds of basic instruction he had a perfect back cast, line control, and delivery. That evening he caught his first fish on a dry fly all by himself. By age 8 he was independently fishing Silver Creek in Idaho and the brutally demanding Deschutes.
Here he is deep in a hole with a 45 degree bank behind him, only a narrow lane between tree for a high backcast, and a bunch of sippers in the back eddy out front. He is grumbing about tying a #20 fly onto 6X leader. Once he gets the fly on he makes good.
