Capt Will Raye on Brewster Flat
I have fished with Will for 13 years now. I can comfortably say that Will loves shallow water sight fishing for stripers as much as he loves breathing and eating. And he is in a league by himself. These days, as a poling guide in a pure flats boat, that is literally true as the glory days of Monomoy have passed with changing water flows, aging fish populations, and altered migration patterns. With the retirement of Capt. Bill Cooling, Will is the last of the breed on Cape Cod. He has persisted and succeeded because he is so incredibly good at it.

On this day, given a break in the weather with full sunlight, I hooked the most BIG fish on the flats than ever before. Unfortunately, due to a stretchy running line and a big, hard-to-penetrate hook, the first five came unglued. Otherwise I would have landed 6 the size of the final fish pictured.

And eventually, as he so often does, Will gave us one of his patented "Will moments" when he puts us on and points out a school of fish so big and reachable as to make our jaws drop.
