The caster can and will ONLY feel differences in this phase dictated by the degree of shortening, that is…by the length of the lever and the total mass of the line, leader, and fly temporarily merged with the moment of inertia of the lever (swing weight ) of the rod.

Given the above single (so far) modeling simplification of assuming a single, static shape, one can justify Figure 3 for the Acceleration Phase and talk about the rod, at this point, as a throwing stick acting as a simple lever.
