From the parking lot one carries in one's float tube or pontoon boat, climbing a low ridge that hides the depression surrounding the lake. One's first glimpse of the lake, given the anticipation, is awlays exciting. Yes...it is still there...and still beautiful...and there are fish RISING (sometimes).

From the crest one can see the two defining features, the towering fault-block ridge of Saddle Mt and the sapphire gem of the lake. Since this is dry desert, the air quality and light transmission is often magical. The low angle of sunlight at sunrise and sunset brings out the best definition.

These two shots are taken from the same tripod stand an hour before sunset and the second just as the last light slips below the horizon, throwing all but Saddle Mt into shade.

If you look closely you might notice that I leave a piece of myself in my pictures....literally
