Waterfowl in Flight
Pictures of waterfowl in flight are merely interesting and beautiful to birders but are absolute pornography to duck and goose hunters. Hunters scan a blank sky for hours, focus and lock on any birds in flight, and learn to read their intent from every nuance of wingbeat tempo. After years of experience and visually triggered excitement, head-on incoming birds with cupped wings has the reflexive visceral response of drop your clothes foreplay. It was my blown-away response to pictures such as these 15 years ago that propelled me back into photography. Like anyone's response to hunting itself, it is a hardwired brainstem reaction and attraction that is either there from the start or not. One cannot explain it
